I’ve driven the Saleen and the Enzo and I must say, they’re not that involving to drive. Back in its day, the CGT’s main rival is the Ferrari Enzo, the Saleen S7, and the SLR. Ferdinand must be proud of this thing (and the 918, of course). The CGT is powered by a mid-mounted 350 ci (5.7L) V10 that produces 6 rpm and 435 lb-ft of torque 5750 rpm. Putting your foot down in a Carrera GT is pretty much a brilliant way to commit suicide (no, it’s not). I almost spun out a couple of times driving that thing. No aids, no assists, just a steering wheel, 3 pedals, and a manual gearbox for you. ![]() It is a car that is pretty much undriveable. It took them a whole decade to replace the Carrera GT. But that acceleration is absolutely brutal. It’s not that quick in a straight line, sure. Unlike the Bugatti Veyron that handles like an apartment building in a landslide, this handles, pretty similar to a Cayman GT4. And if I want to go on a sunny day cruise, I can remove the carbon fiber roof and put it in the trunk. I can fit a small suitcase and a laptop in the trunk. Is it daily capable? Well, for a car that can do 6:57 on the Nurburgring, it’s actually very good. The car that I drove was equipped with the optional full racing bucket seats and they are not that bad, actually. The way the car drives in the Hybrid mode is very comfortable. It is powered by a proper naturally aspirated V8 that makes 608 horsepower and two electric motors producing an additional 208 kw (279 hp). The trunk is actually larger than the P1’s or the Ferrari’s. ![]() It has a HUGE trunk that can be used to put the targa roof. I think when it comes to the looks, I’ll take a 918 over the P1 or the LaFerrari. The 918 that I drove was a Weissach Package equipped 918 with the Salzburg livery. Hopefully I can do that somewhere in the future. ![]() Unfortunately, I haven’t got the chance to drive the P1 and the LaFerrari yet. With its rivalry against the McLaren P1, and the Ferrari LaFerrari, there are a lot of hypes on these hypercars (get it?). That was accomplished by a 918 equipped with the Weissach package-which shaved about 100 pounds from the curb weight but added 10 percent to the price. The 918 Spyder is one of my favorite hypercars. The 918 laid down a 6:57 lap time at the Nürburgring (on street tires), which Porsche claims is still unbeaten among production cars. Porsche buyers were said to be leery of the 918’s hybrid powertrain and its price tag crowding $1 million ($847,975 before options in the U.S.).īut the car evidently overcame those early objections, possibly due to its mind-warping performance. At the time, the mega Porsche was not a sellout, unlike hypercars such as the McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari. Production of Porsche’s hybrid supercar commenced on September 18 (9/18), 2013. The 918 originally appeared as a concept in 2010 at the Geneva auto show, and was given the green light later that year. You can watch the assembly process here, and here are 15 things we learned when we toured the production facility last fall. The planned 918-unit production run is completed, and the company claims that all are spoken for, with about 300 ending up in the United States. The last Porsche 918 Spyder has been built that’s it above, getting a final rubdown.
